Springs Library Hall to host Cosatu greater Springs Congress

The Springs branch of Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) will hold their congress on April 28 at the Springs Library Hall.

The trade union will discuss workers’ issues with input from all Cosatu affiliates.

Issues to be discussed at the congress include National Health Insurance, women and child abuse, minimum wage, the expropriation of land without compensation and radical economic transformation.

Local secretary Bhekiziswe Kraai says, “As a trade union we have faced numerous challenges.

“The biggest one has been the triple challenge of poverty, unemployment and inequality that we face as the working class.

“Poor attendance by worker leaders has also been a problem.”

Kraai added that one of the trade union’s goals is to fight maladministration, fraud and corruption within their own ranks.

Cosatu has invited all of its affiliate partners, such the African National Congress, South African Communist Party and the South African National Civic Organisation.

“We want to rebuild the relationship with our alliance partners so that we can work together to benefit the majority.

“It is critical that we are united,” says Kraai.

The congress is open to all who wish to attend and will start at 8am until 4pm.
