WATCH: Women showcase their talent in entertainment industry

The Women in Performing Arts Development Organisation is grooming women to withstand the pressures of the male-dominated entertainment industry.

Duduza – Founded by Hamilton ‘Chillies’ Motloung in 2015, the organisation aims to give women a platform without being exploited.

“I know that the people at the top, who control the industry, are males.

“And most of the time women are underdeveloped because no one is paying attention to them.”

Chillies says he strongly believes that there are many talented females in the community.

“At the moment we are focussing on music, but soon we will cater for dancing and theatre.”

The youngest member of the all-female choir is 16, with the oldest in her 50s.

The organisation also has a younger group of singers at the Ephraim Mlangeni Music Academy.

“Our aim is capacity building and very soon we will roll out training programmes.”

Twenty-six-year-old Dudu Radebe says being part of the group, since November, has taught her the love of family.

“Now I know what it is to be part of a family and feel appreciated because we are all very close to each other.

“And I have seen the strength that we have as women, when we unite and have a common goal.”

Tsholofelo Matsi says when she joined the group she only wanted to be a singer, but has developed an interest for the business side of things.

“The field is broad and we are grateful for the opportunity to discover all these things.”

The professional welder says she cannot wait for the organisation to produce theatre plays.
