Gogo Lifa celebrates her 100th birthday
Gogo Lifa Motshweni celebrated her 100th birthday in the company of friends and family on March 31.
KwaThema – The elder was identified during the Mayoral Siyaquba programme that is aimed at inspecting service delivery programmes in Ekurhuleni early this year.
Ward 80 councillor Wilson Busakwe says they identified her as the oldest person within the ward and decided to host her birthday celebration.

“She told us her one wish was to celebrate her birthday in the company of family and friends.
“We went on to seek donations and sponsorship from local business people to make her dream possible and willingly stepped up to the plate to help.
“We are happy that we were able to make her dream come true as she had wished,” he says.
Busakwe says they decided to invite her peers in the area to celebrate her life and share memories.
“Many elderly people are forced to be alone at home and feel less loved and appreciated by their friends and community.
“We know it was not a big celebration but it was memorable,” he says.
Motshweni says she is happy that the councillor decided to celebrate her life.
“I will always remember this day and I am grateful for the gifts that I received,” she says.
