Book club to make a difference in township reading

Daveyton Book Club has spread its wings countrywide by opening over 13 book clubs.

Daveyton – The club was recently honoured with a special award in education and skills development by the Gauteng Department of Basic Education.

The non-profit organisation was formed by Kwandile Sikhosana and Sarah Madingwana.

Co-founder Kwandile says this is a huge honour for the club and for its growth.

“The recognition will help us in achieving our objectives and opening doors for us to make a difference in the lives of others.

“We are working to grow the book club to other townships across the country and make a difference in the learners’ lives.

“We are aimed at promoting education and human rights for all people in South Africa.

“Establish libraries in disadvantaged communities and assist with the development of the education sector work.”

He says their main focus is promoting the constitution and development of people.

“We want to promote self-governance and better the lives of the poor through education and in the process improve the standard of living for orphans and vulnerable children across the country,” he says.

Kwandile says they believe if they will be able to achieve their objectives through partnerships with other organisations.

“This will be through campaigns which improve services and raise awareness in relation to education.”
