Clinicians give pensioners a hand

Health centre commemorates beloved doctor’s death by donating much-needed health services to the elderly, on Saturday.

Springs – Dr Elaine Ellan and the staff of NWZ-Ellan Health Care hosted 20 pensioners from the KwaThema Old Age.

“We have done this in remembrance of our colleague Dr Zwane, and to help our community.”

Dr Nelisa Wiseman Zwane died last March after he was involved in a car accident.

The centre offered free dental services to 10 of the pensioners.

“Two of them have received full dentures.”

The centre’s podiatrist also gave the elderly innersoles to help reduce pressure on their ailing feet.

A few others received crutches and walking frames.

“We want to continue and do more.

“If all clinicians did this, in all communities, that would make a significant contribution,” adds Ellan.

She also believes that it is more important to take extra care of the elderly, who are often overlooked.

Thelma Nhleko, from KwaThema Old Age Home, says they are very grateful to have been chosen.

“They have really helped with much-needed support.

“We appreciate the teeth and walkers because it takes a while to get those through the public healthcare system.”

Nhleko says most of the pensioners do not have the means to get such medical attention.

The pensioners were treated to a meal as well.

Zwane’s family and friends were also in attendance.
