Man arrested for attacking and trying to stab a learner in class at a Duduza secondary school

The man was arrested for trespassing on school premises after assaulting and trying to stab a learner.

Duduza – A 23-year-old man was arrested for trespassing on school premises after assaulting and trying to stab a learner at Asser Maloka Secondary School.

It is alleged the learner (18) was busy with his school work when the intruder stormed into the class and asked for his name.

Duduza police spokesperson Sergeant Harry Manaka says the man slapped the learner across his face.

“He then pulled out a knife in an attempt to stab him in full view of the other learners.

“The learner managed to evade the knife and fled to the staff room for safety.

“The suspect was apprehended and disarmed by the teachers, who called the police.

“The man was later arrested and detained at Duduza police station,” he says.

Manaka says it was later revealed that the intruder is a boyfriend to one of the learners who earlier had an argument with the learner the suspect allegedly assaulted.

“The angry female learner had informed the boyfriend about the incident who decided to act out,” he says.

Duduza SAPS station commander Lt Col Bheki Mhlungu commended the police for their swift response in arresting the suspect.

“This will send a strong message that trespassing into schools is a serious offence and that any person found in possession of a dangerous weapon shall be dealt with harshly by law enforcement.

“The male is facing charges of assault, trespassing and possession of dangerous weapon,” he says.
