Police warn residents against sitting in their cars at night

Police are urging residents to refrain from sitting in their cars in the middle of the night.

KwaThema – This after 52-year-old Mfanaufikile Luca Jiyane was shot and killed while sitting in a white VW Polo Classic along Chefu Street in KwaThema with a female friend.

KwaThema SAPS spokesperson Captain Thabo Sibuyi says it is alleged two unknown men walked past the car and walked back.

“They pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the driver, taking advantage of the open window.

“They demanded the car keys but the deceased refused to hand them over.

“They shot him in the chest and pulled him out of the car.

“The suspects instructed the witness to lie down next to the deceased and warned her not to scream or they would turn the gun on her.

“They took her cellphone and drove off with the deceased’s car, leaving the witness on the scene.

“The driver was certified as dead on the scene by the paramedics,” says Sibuyi.

Sibuyi says no one has been arrested at this point.

“We are calling on community members to assist us in tracking down the suspects and motor vehicle,” he says.
