Local constructor donates t-shirts in KwaThema

A local pavement constructor has donated 24 branded t-shirts to 12 Ward 74 committee members on Friday.

KwaThema – The pavement constructor, Sfiso Mthethwa, says he decided, as part of his plough back to the community drive, to donate to this group.

“I understand some of the challenges that they face on a daily basis.

“I grew up in this community and I have seen some of the members conducting door to door visits but they didn’t have any identification and this made it difficult for them to gain the trust of residents.

“I decided instead of donating school shoes and blankets for the elderly, I’d rather help this group out since they are often overlooked.

“This group of people play an important role in the community and there should not be anything hindering their contribution,” he says.

Sfiso says they will also be conducting a winter drive donating school jerseys and blankets for the elderly this winter.

“I believe this is a vulnerable group that needs all of us to work together and make their lives bearable,” he says.

Ward 74 councillor, Thulani Simelane, says the donation will help make it easy for the ward committee members to be identified in the community when they make inspections.

“We are calling on residents to know their ward committee members and register their grievances with them.

“This group are the eyes and ears of the community and will help escalate your grievances concerning service delivery to the councillors,” he says.
