Ndebele chief takes a stand against social ills in Kwatsaduza

Part of the ongoing initiative to help community members to apply for smart ID cards.

KwaThema – Chief Eliaja Skhosana hosted the Department of Home Affairs as well as NGOs from the area.

This was part of the ongoing initiative to help community members to apply for smart ID cards.

Skhosana says they decided to invite the department to the community to allow the elderly and other residents to apply for smart ID cards in the comfort of their surroundings.

“Most of them can’t afford to travel to the home affairs offices to apply for the new IDs,” he says.

Skhosana says he also took the opportunity to inform the residents about the services he offers under the King Mmusi Traditional Council.

“We deal with civil issues, such as resolving marital problems and fights between siblings or neighbours, which we feel the police do not have to be involved in.”

Skhosana says they also addressed issues of wellness and the importance of taking care of one’s health.

“We want the residents to know their health status, use protection when having sex and those who have contracted the virus to take their treatment.

“I believe it is about time the chiefs and other traditional leaders got involved in the fight against HIV/Aids and crime.

“The notion that real men don’t have sex with a condom should not be entertained. It is your life and health takes priority.

“Some of these young people end up taking drugs because they don’t have direction.

“We are teaching young people to become responsible, which will be seen in their actions as leaders since they are the future of this community.
