‘Generate your business idea’ workshop hosted in KwaThema

Sips gave young entrepreneurs a platform to sharpen their business skills in the three-day workshop.

KwaThema – Sithuthukisa Isizwe Place of Safety (Sips), in partnership with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), educated 30 young people in their ‘Generate your business idea’ workshop at KwaThema Skills Centre.

Sips gave young entrepreneurs a platform to sharpen their business skills in the three-day workshop from February 21 to 23.

Elliot Mahamotse of NYDA says it is important for people to identify the difference between their skills, knowledge and attitude.

“When you decide what business you want to get into, you have to be clear about what knowledge you have about it and how you can make a profit from it.

“If you want to make wine, you definitely have to be knowledgeable about grapes.”

He says young people make the mistake of committing to products out of excitement.

“Don’t do what everyone is doing, because they could be very wrong.

“And the knowledge you have may actually set you apart from every other vendor who sells the same product or service,” he adds.

He encourages them not to be intimidated by qualifications or lack thereof.

“You can have the skill to do something without any qualification.

“However, when you get the opportunity to showcase the skill, make sure you are ready.”

Phindi Hlongwane, founder and director of Sips, says the organisation intends on helping to equip more young people.

“We are due to have another workshop by the end of April.

“Unfortunately, space is always limited so we hope, as soon as we confirm with NYDA, young people can sign up early.”

All the candidates received certificates for their participation.
