Argument between security guards ends in death

An argument between two security guards ended with one dead and the other behind bars with a charge of murder hanging over his head.

Tsakane – It is alleged one guard pulled out his service firearm and shot his colleague at Tsakane Mall last week.

The victim and his colleagues were allegedly arguing with the suspect and his colleagues over a misunderstanding between two groups of security guards.

Tsakane police spokesperson, Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu, says the police were called to Tsakane Mall for a shooting incident.

“When we arrived at the scene the victim was already rushed to hospital by a colleague,” Mngomezulu says.

“The suspect, aged (26), who was on duty at the time of the incident, was arrested at the scene and the victim was later confirmed dead in hospital.”

Tsakane SAPS station commander, Colonel Johannes Maass, says he is disappointed by the incident.

“We expect the security companies to help us in fighting crime, not to take the law into their own hands,” Maass says.

“We are calling on community members to resolve differences without engaging in physical fights.

“We are investigating a case of murder and the suspect will appear in court soon.”
