Duduza learner seen flashing R100 notes at school was arrested with counterfeit money

Police arrested a learner in possession of counterfeit notes worth R47 000 on Tuesday.

Duduza – It is alleged the learner was seen in flashing R100 notes to other learners.

Duduza police spokesperson, Sergeant Harry Manaka, says the police received a report from an educator that one of their learners was in possession of fake R100 notes worth R5 000.

“They followed up on the information and went to the learner’s house where they recovered more of the notes, bringing the total to R47 000,” says Manaka.

“According to the teacher they saw the learner with this huge bundle of notes, then alerted the police who acted swiftly before the notes could be circulated.

“The learner was arrested and released back into parental custody and is expected to appear in court,” Manaka adds.

“Police also discovered that someone within the learner’s family was dealing in these notes and are continuing with further investigations.”

Manaka says the Duduza SAPS station commander, Lt Col Bheki Mhlungu, appreciated the quick reaction by the police.

“We also appreciate the manner in which they handled the matter, by taking serious consideration of the Child Justice Act as well as legislation pertaining to counterfeit money.”
