Class of 2017 top achievers off to university thanks to CSI initiative

Top achieving learners from Tsakane receive full scholarship as they pursue academic excellence at university.

Tsakane – Emperors Palace, through their CSI initiative Peermont Education Trust, is making dreams come true for seven lucky youngsters.

Among the candidates to be awarded a full scholarship by the trust are Tsakane residents Thabo Ranamane (18), Disebo Mapole (17), Thabo Moyo (18) and Lebohang Mogajane (18).

The scholarship will cover tuition, accommodation, books and a laptop.

One of the top recipients for 2018 is Mogajane who obtained seven distinctions at the end of last year when she matriculated as the top performer at Tholulwazi Secondary School.

With distinctions in English, geography, Sepedi, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics and physical sciences, Mogajane will be doing a B.Sc in Actuarial and Financial Maths at the University of Pretoria.

While Renamane, who achieved six distinctions, will follow his dream and study B.Eng in Computer Science at the University of the Witwatersrand.

Moyo will join him at the same institution to do a B.Sc Mathematical Sciences degree.

Mapole, with five distinctions in geography, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics and physical sciences, will start her Bachelor of Accounting studies at the University of Johannesburg thanks to the Trust.

The final recipients were selected from hundreds of applications and had to make it through a stringent selection process as well as a nerve wrecking interview with a panel of judges.

In addition to having all costs paid in full, these fortunate students will also receive workshops and psychological support to sustain them throughout the academic year.

“Over the years we have found that we are able to increase our graduation rate by offering learners additional support throughout the year.

“We do not just leave them to their own devices,” says trust manager Jenny Findlay.

“To this end, the trust has achieved an 85 per cent graduation rate for the past 10 years.

“This is exceptional, considering that the learners are from township schools and that the national graduation rate is 22 per cent.”
