Criminals flee with boxes of cigarettes

Police are investigating a case of armed robbery in Duduza following the robbery of a BAT cigarette vehicle in Lusaka Street in Bluegumview last Monday.

Duduza – It is alleged the BAT vehicle, a white VW Caddy was delivering cigarettes at a tuck shop in the area when the driver was approached by three men.

Duduza police spokesperson, Sergeant Harry Manaka, says the three men were driving in a white Toyota Tazz.

“They pointed firearms at him and ordered him to get into the back of the Caddy and sped off with him.

“The suspects later stopped at Winnie Street in Bluegumview about two kilometres away, where they offloaded some of the boxes of cigarettes into the Tazz and fled the scene,” he says.

Manaka says no shots were fired and no one sustained injuries.

“The police responded and it was discovered that about 14 boxes of cigarettes worth about R230 000 were taken.

“The registration of the Tazz was not seen and police are appealing to anyone with information that can assist or lead to the arrest of the robbers, to contact Duduza SAPS on 011 730-4723 or the police on 10111. He or she may remain anonymous.
