KwaThema – Senior citizens in KwaThema got the opportunity to apply for a smart ID card with the help of the Ndebele Chief Elijah Skhosana recently.
The Ndebele Chief partnered with the Department of Home Affairs to make this possible.
Skhosana says he decided to invite the department to the community since some of them cannot afford to travel to the offices in town.

“I learned that the department offers free mobile services, I decided to approach them.
“This enables the residents an opportunity to receive information and services from the department.
“I was happy when I received a positive response from them to help render their services,” he says.
“We are calling on people of all ages in the area who still have smart IDs to come forward and seek help.
Paulos Mabena (75) says he is still using his old green book because he could not afford to apply for a new ID.
“But when I heard the announcement that the department will be rendering free services in the area I decided to take advantage of it,” he says.
Skhosana says they will be hosting a similar campaign on February 24.
