Man gets life sentence for wife’s murder

A man was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife at the Nigel Magistrate's Court on February 2.

Duduza – Pakiso Dubazane of Bluegumview was arrested by Duduza police on November 6 after the death of his wife Ntombizodwa.

This was after Duduza SAPS Det Sgt Zinhle Magwaza had attended the scene at a house in Bluegumview where a female was reported to have died after returning from a tavern.

Upon arrival, Magwaza found Dubazane watching TV, and he told the police that his wife came from the tavern at about 3am and she was injured and appeared to have been assaulted.

He said she went to her bedroom to sleep and later died.

Upon further investigation, Magwaza, working with Mofokeng, managed to follow traces of blood to the rubbish bin outside where they found bloodstained clothes belonging to the deceased.

They made follow-ups on other people who witnessed Dubazane beating his wife up.

The detectives worked tirelessly to prove that Ntombizodwa was well and alive when she arrived and that it was Dubazane who actually stabbed her to death.

Handing down sentence, Nigel Regional Court court magistrate J Voogt mentioned that Dubazane made all efforts to conceal the murder, by cleaning up the blood in the house after he had stabbed his wife, and that alone is heartless and he showed no remorse.

Voogt further commended Duduza police for their hard work and positive attitude, and that it was their efforts that actually led to the uncovering of the clothing and by taking extra precaution in handling the evidence and taking it for forensic examination and comparison.

He said it showed that the police are really serious about their work and well-trained to handle crime scenes without compromising the integrity of the crime scene.

Duduza SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Harry Manaka, said that this was a good breakthrough in the fight against violence directed at women and children.

“As the police, we condemn in the strongest terms any form of violence towards women and hope that the sentence will serve as a deterrent for other would be perpetrators.”
