Tsakane – When four friends came together to raise money for a project, they had no idea they would fall in love with the hustle itself.
Bonginkosi Mtshali, Tebogo Nhlapho, Mduduzi Lekgobohlo and Mndli Msipha met and became friends as learners at Buhlebemundo Secondary School.

“We have been tending gardens all our lives, so when we thought of a way to raise capital for a business we want to start, landscaping was an easy option.
“And that is how Solid Garden Services started last December,” explains twenty-year-old Mduduzi.
The boys are all BCom accounting students at the University of Johannesburg.
“Little did we know that we would actually enjoy what we are doing, so much.
We are no longer just doing it to raise capital,” adds Bonginkosi.
The young men say they spend a lot of time hanging out at public parks and they were also disappointed with the condition of the facilities.
“Sihleli epark kodwa ngathi yihlathi. We sit at the park but sometimes it feels like a bushveld,” says Tebogo.
The aspiring charted accountants believe people would be inspired to keep the kasi clean if it were well maintained.
“From churches and municipal buildings to private homes – all would give off a more positive vibe after some good landscaping.”
Mdudzi says he wants people to understand that they don’t just cut grass.
“We take care of all the needs of your garden.
“Landscaping is about making a piece of land more attractive by altering the existing design, adding ornamental features, and planting trees and shrubs.”
Solid Garden Services also employs three part-time employees.
“We are building something that will contribute immensely to our community.
“We also have many more ideas coming soon,” says Bonginkosi.
