“Shoes are important to bring the whole outfit together.

“And maybe it is also the most expensive component of their attire,” he explains.

The club says it could not ignore the plight of the many learners who go to school with worn out shoes every day.

“We also know that some of them walk long distances.

“And we just want to boost their confidence.”

The club raised the money to buy the shoes by appealing to each member to contribute to the cause.

Gondo says that this is a good way for them to kick off the year.

“The school gave us fourteen names so that is the list we adhered to.

“We hope to do more as the years progress.”

The social club was only established in October 2017.

Gondo says that they want to make a tangible impact in the community, not just existing to entertain themselves.

Principal Sbongile Phasha says she is very grateful for the initiative.

“You may never understand the depth of your gift, but we appreciate it and we will for a long time.”

She says that some of the learners were really desperate for the shoes.

“This was much-needed assistance.

“As a parent myself, I am grateful that they extended themselves to these learners.”
