School vandalised during holidays

Tsakane - Reshogofaditswe Secondary School was broken into and vandalised during the festive season.

Bheki Nyalunga, chairperson of the school’s governing body, says he was alerted of the damage on December 24.

“I had to come in person to see what was going on.”

It is alleged that two males had made their way into the premises and started demolishing the awnings that create shade on the pathways.

“There is always something that happens here when schools are closed.”

Danisile Kgabo, a member of the SGB, is pleading with the department of education to offer the schools more security during the holidays.

“I don’t understand how this could happen while there is someone watching the school.

Can the department send us people who love the community and their jobs?”

It is said that there was one security guard at the school when the crime occurred.

“We discovered that one of the toilets was also broken into.”

The school has laid a formal complaint at Tsakane Police Station, where investigation is in progress.

“We need to take good care of our schools because they serve our communities,” says principal Pinky Mashego.
