Share love with the less fortunate this festive season

I am hereby requesting each and every one of us to spare an hour and small amount of money to brighten their day.

Christmas means spending time with family and giving or sharing with the less fortunate – this is what I was taught by my grandmother from a young age.

During the Christmas period we were expected to donate food and clothes to some of the less fortunate families in our area.

This has been a tradition we adopted and continued throughout the years.

Over the weekend, together with a group of friends, we decided to visit an orphanage and old-age home to donate non-perishable food items.

This is the tradition we started four years ago and which is gaining momentum through the years.

Some of the children said they don’t have families to visit over the festive holidays and would be stuck in the centre for the festive season.

While playing and interacting with the elderly people at the centres, I realised how fortunate I am.

I mean I still have both my parents, siblings and grandparents who would give up everything if I ever need their help.

But this is not the case with those living in these centres – they have no one but themselves.

While we go to our respective homes in the villages and homelands to spend time with loved ones, they will be stuck in these centres hoping that someone will visit them.

I am hereby requesting each and every one of us to spare an hour and small amount of money to brighten their day.

It doesn’t have to be anything luxurious but I know they will appreciate and cherish the good deed for years.

We should all remember that we all need each other.

Share love and brighten someone’s day this festive season.
