Dress an orphan this Christmas

Dress an orphan this Christmas is an annual campaign to help gather brand new clothes for orphans.

The fourth #DressAnOrphanThisChristmas2017 aims to dress 300 orphans in Kwatsaduza.

“The campaign was inspired by the culture of kids dressing up in new clothes on Christmas day.

“I recall how I felt like locking myself indoors because I did not want to be the only one without new clothes on the street,” explains Sicelo Mbonani, founder of the project.

He believes the campaign has made a major impact over the years by giving children the assurance that they will be dressed up on Christmas day.

“They are expecting us to come again and their lives have been restored.”

Last year the project dressed 104 children.

“All that is required from individual donors and organisations is a complete outfit for each child and assistance in hosting a Christmas lunch with them.”

Sicelo says the clothes, after being received, will be prepared for the handover where donors are allowed to accompany them at their own cost.

“We really want people to come with us to present the gifts and to bond with the children.”

All donations are due on December 22.

“On Christmas Eve, December 24, the clothes will be delivered to the orphanages and the official handover occurs.

“This will be followed by lunch on Christmas day.”
