Springs policemen receive awards

Springs police officers have been recognised by their station commander for their work during 2017.

The Springs SAPS Prestige Awards ceremony took place at Brakpan Lake on Friday.

Categories included best detective, visible policing member, best general worker, best support, best social crime prevention and best officer of the year.

The awards are aimed at inspiring police members to go beyond their normal scope of work.

“The award came as a surprise and I was shocked when they called my name, but it was an amazing

feeling,” says Ramphora.

Another policeman, WO Wynand du Toit, says when he completed the entry forms it was without any expectations.

“Receiving an award at the SAPS Provincial Prestige Excellence Awards ceremony was a surprise, but to win another award as the best social crime prevention person of the year, was an even greater surprise,” he says.

One of the award recipients, Capt Johannes Ramphora, who received the award for being the best officer of the year, says it is a wonderful gesture to award policemen and women for their hard work.

The award for being best general worker of the year was handed to Lukas Mogano.

Mogano makes sure the cells and police station are kept clean.

Ramphora says Mogano was rewarded for good discipline and punctuality.

The visible policing award was given to Cst Mandla Sibanyoni from the visible policing (Vispol) unit.

Capt Marlene Matthyssen received the best support member of the year award.

Lt Col Mandie Davel received the award for best shift of the year.

Ramphora says this has to do with support and good discipline as well as arrests and convictions.

The award for being the best detective in Springs went to Sgt Frans Strydom.

“We would like congratulate each and every member who received awards, for their dedication to their duty to fight crime in our town.

“We are proud of them,” says Ramphora.
