School wins R15 000 worth of building materials

“The school was constructed in the early 1950’s and the toilets are no longer in a good condition".

KwaThema – Ntokozweni Primary School received R15 000 worth of building materials from a local building store during the opening of KwaThema Square on Wednesday.

The school was invited to submit a business plan early this year.

School principal, Thembi Mpanza, says she is happy the school was given an opportunity to present their needs to the store.

“We will use the building materials to repair the sewage pipes because the connection is very old and we often experience blockages.

“The school was constructed in the early 1950s and the toilets are no longer in good condition.

“We are hoping to attract more sponsors who will come on board to help us to renew some of the old buildings in the school.

“We should all remember it is not only the responsibility of the department of education to improve learning and a safe environment at the school, but for every resident and other stakeholders in that community,” she says.

Thembi says three of their learners also won in a draw and were also crowned the best dressed participants during the event.

“The learners and teachers represented us well by winning the prize money and we are proud of them,” she says.
