Car crashes leave four dead

“The cause of the crash is still under investigation by Ekurhuleni traffic officers.”

Kwatsaduza – Two schoolchildren, an elderly woman and a toddler died in two separate incidents on Friday morning.

It is alleged the first accident involved two seven-seater vehicles.

One was transporting 14 schoolchildren to their various destinations, while the second vehicle had only three occupants as it was driving out of the gate.

Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson William Ntladi says the emergency personnel from Rynfield and Daveyton Fire Station, instantaneously responded to a horrendous crash involving two vehicles in Fifth Street Cloverdene, Benoni this morning.

“On arrival, two female scholars were declared dead on the scene by paramedics due to the severe injuries they sustained and 12 others were rushed to hospital in serious conditions.

“The casualties were transported to Sunshine Hospital in Benoni for further medical care.

“The cause of the crash is still under investigation by Ekurhuleni traffic officers,” he says.

Ntladi says in the second incident in KwaThema, a baby of about six months and an elderly woman alleged to be the nanny, were instantly killed by a truck at the intersection on Joe Mzamane and Marule streets in KwaThema Extension Two.

“Both patients were declared deceased by paramedics after they conducted on-scene medical assessments.

“It is alleged the mother had a baby on her back and was walking down the pavement when the incident happened,” he says.
