Summit encourages young entrepreneurs

KwaThema - Ulwazi Resource Consulting in partnership with Gauteng Enterprise Propeller (GEP) and the metro gave young people a platform to network and learn about business.

“The objective of the leadership conference is to establish a network of emerging leaders who use the skills and available resources to maximise economic opportunities.

“This helps in the attempt to achieve youth economic freedom in South Africa,” explains Sandile Tsie, a communications officer.

The Ekurhuleni Youth Entrepreneurs Summit (EYES) 2017 saw around 300 young business people and hopefuls gather at Bahama Pub and Grill last Saturday.

Hector ‘The Motivator’ encourages young people to think of themselves as brands.

“Everything you do in business reflects what kind of service you will provide to your client.

“Some of you get tenders for catering and you run into the venue late and dripping with sweat.”

He says they should always put their best foot forward to show potential clients they are capable.

Jongizizwe Dlabathi, ANC chief whip in Ekurhuleni, adds that unless the entrepreneurs take themselves and their work seriously, no one will.

“Look the part, do the research and know what is happening in your industry.”

Bongani Luvalo from the South African Youth Council says: “The sad reality is that the private sector is shedding jobs and taking their profits to reserves.

“We have an increased number of unemployed graduates, skilled and unskilled.”

He encourages hopefuls to be patient when they start their businesses.

“It takes about three years to determine whether a business will be successful or not. So don’t quit prematurely.”

He also emphasises the need to support black business.

The GEP promotes, fosters and develops small enterprises by implementing the policy of the Gauteng Provincial Government for small enterprise development.
