Laban Motlhabi Secondary School join hands to repaint school

“The little that you can share will help go a long way and make a difference.”

KwaThema – Learners and members of Equal Education joined the campaign to clean and repaint a portion of the Laban Motlhabi Secondary School recently.

The project was initiated by the learners who felt they needed to be the change they wanted to see in their community.

Leader of Equal Education, Sibusiso Mazibuko, says they were approached by the concerned learners about refurbishing certain parts of the school.

“We immediately decided to join in because the school is one of the 18 schools in the area we are working with.

“As the advocates for equal education we could not turn a blind eye when we could see that the school needed to be revamped.

“We painted the school gates and window frames to help give the school colour and to look bright.

“We will continue to seek funds to help improve other areas of the school,” he says.

Sibusiso says they are calling on business people and community members to help make the school environment a better area of learning.

“It is not only the responsibility of the department of basic education to ensure that the learners learn in a safe environment – we are all responsible.

“The little that you can share will help to go a long way and make a difference,” he says.

Sibusiso says the project also served as a team-building session for the teachers, learners and the residents.

“The learners have learnt the importance of working together and respecting each other.

“Through such initiatives we will be able to have future leaders who are responsible,” he says.
