Beloved matron retires from Pholosong

Pholosong Hospital hosted a celebration to bid farewell to gynae and obstetrics area manager.

Tsakane – Pholosong Hospital hosted a celebration to bid farewell to its gynaecology and obstetrics area manager, matron Regina Magagane.

After 23 years of service, Magagane is exiting the public service on retirement.

“When I worked as a junior midwife in the department, I was given the name ‘A team’ for my hard work and managerial skills.

I was regarded as one of the best midwifery sisters in the hospital,” says Magagane.

Her quest for knowledge and growth prompted her to further her studies in advanced midwifery.

Magagane is well known for her work in reducing birth asphyxia.

“I started the birth asphyxia project in 2015.

“We aimed to eradicate birth asphyxia and it proved to be a success, because the rate of birth asphyxia was reduced from 22 to one per month.”

In October 2015, Magagane was invited to speak at a health symposium organised by the Gauteng health department.

Last year she was nominated for the Premier Awards for her excellent managerial skills.

She won the Khanyisa award and returned to the hospital with a certificate and a trophy.

Nursing services manager Fikile Mabuza had only good things to say about the matron.

“This is not the end of life for Magagane, but the start of another chapter,” she says.

“We know Ms Magagane for being a very dedicated and hard worker.

“She used to dedicate her time to her work, even working after hours.

“She will be missed for her dedication of giving care to Pholosong Hospital and the community.”

Pholosong Hospital CEO Dr Pungie Lingham says he has great admiration for her skills in mentoring and guiding her team.

“She has a very positive approach to challenges.

“What I admired the most was her ability to ‘come to the party’.

“In all she did she remained loyal and dedicated.

“She has the most compassionate and caring attitude towards patients, with an absolute commitment to patient advocacy.”

Pholosong Hospital would like to wish matron Magagane well in her future endeavours.
