Daveyton – ANC Ekurhuleni chief whip Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi has committed to rebuilding a house occupied by five children in Etwatwa.
He confirmed this during the Taking Caucus to the People (TCP) programme held in the area recently.
Last Friday the house was demolished and work on the foundation began.
Dlabathi says after his visit to the family, he became concerned about the poor condition of the house.
“The house is occupied by five children who stay by themselves after their mother left them years ago.
“Their ordeal was initially brought to the attention of the office of the Chief Whip by a neighbour who requested that the family be assisted.
“We have committed, in conjunction with the mayor’s Siyaqhuba programme, to rebuild the house by the end of October,” he says.
Dlabathi says there will also be a housing project to build in the communities of Etwatwa and Daveyton.
“The 1996 list and backyard dwellers will be prioritised as beneficiaries,” he says.
The caucus also conducted oversight of various projects that are underway in the area.
Dlabathi says the TCP programme continues to play an integral part in ensuring proper accountability on service delivery.
“We have conducted site inspection to verify contractor performance in building of serviced stands, electrification of informal settlement and roads construction,” he says.
