Tsakane – On Monday 100 learners at Tsakane Secondary School received dignity packs from the MMC of Environment and Waste Management, Ndosi Shongwe and a local waste collection subcontractor in the area.
This is part of the monthly donations the two bodies decided to make at the school.
Shongwe says as community leaders, they all have a responsibility to build the nation or a community.
“Whatever donation you make can never be too little or be overlooked.
“We don’t want for any of the learners to miss a day of school because they don’t have toiletries.
“The project will be running until my term in office comes to an end in 2021,” she says.
Shongwe also encouraged the learners to focus on their studies.
“Education is the key to success and there is no reason for not being at school.
“The city also has bursaries for all the deserving and hard-working learners. We are encouraging you to seize the opportunity.
“Many of the schools in the area are ‘no-fees payable’ schools and there is no reason for any learner to stay away,” she says.
“Your family background should not stop you from dreaming and chasing your dreams,” she adds.
Vusi Sibiya from the waste management company says they decided to share some of the profit to empower and make a difference in a learner’s life.
“We work in this community and witness the challenges learners face daily.
“We are hoping that the small contribution will go a long towards making a difference in their lives.
“We are hoping to attract more business people in the area so we can reach more learners,” he says.
