School gets make over from corporate

Tsakane – Matshidiso School is one of the beneficiaries of a corporate social investment of a local beverage manufacturer.

Georgette Naidoo, corporate investment specialist for the manufacturer says the project is based on their employees volunteering to assist the chosen beneficiaries.

“CSI is a way of giving back to communities that have supported the brand for years.

“These are the same communities that our employees come from.”

To make the lives of the learners and teachers easier, the group chose to help refurbish Matshidiso, a school for learners with special educational needs (LSEN).

“We are extending the garden by planting more vegetables and installing shade nets.

“We are fixing and painting the jungle gym and giving them a sand pit.”

She adds the volunteers created bookshelves and outdoor benches with tables.

“There are floor games being painted to inspire the learners creatively,” she explains.

She says they chose the school mainly because it caters to learners with intellectual disabilities.

Thapelo Tshetlo, the school’s principal says they are very excited to see the finished product

“We appreciate that a company like this one would choose to contribute to us in this way.

“We welcome any kind of donation and support.”

He believes that they should maintain good relationships with corporates.

“This should not just be a once off and we wish they could do it for other schools as well. Who can bring 150 of their employees on a working day?

“It is unbelievable.”

Roshan Thakur, plant engineer says: “It is an honour for us to do this and give back to the community.”
