Youth is on the move

Youth on the move and Virtue corporate group both Non-profit Organisation work collectively with an aim of inspiring young people who are affected by substance abuse.

Duduza – NGOs use health and fitness campaigns to address substance abuse, which they believe is the leading cause of criminal activities and teenage pregnancy in Kwatsaduza.

Youth on the Move and Virtue corporate group, both non-profit organisations, work collectively with the aim of inspiring young people who are affected by substance abuse.

The programme utilises open space around the community to promote a healthy lifestyle and a diet with hopes of changing people’s lives.

“There are many cases of rape and robbery that take place at parks during off-peak hours from Monday to Sunday.

This causes social instability and threatens the local economy,” says chairperson of Youth on the Move, Mbali Xaba.

Clement Khumalo of Virtue corporate group says: “Regular physical activities can ward off life-threatening diseases, reduce feelings of depression and anxiety and help to control weight, obesity, build and maintain healthy bones, muscles and joints.”

One of the beneficiaries of the programme, Mike Kgopano (33) says: “We’ve had enough of substance abuse and don’t know how to quit and live a normal life.”

The movement is grateful to Tsakane sports hub and the EMPD Crime Prevention Unit who made the event successful.

The events have made a positive impact in 530 sedentary participants who took initiative in netball, soccer and arts and culture.

A youth sports tournament will take place at Asser Maloka Secondary School on October 3.
