Awards to honour community builders

KwaThema - Thabang Xaba Foundation presents Community Leadership Awards to give recognition to people who have shaped the community of KwaThema.

“These are people who have sacrificed time with families to better the lives of our people through their mentorship, advocacy, teachings, skills and financial contributions to the community,” explains Thabang Xaba, founder of the organisation.

“The community of KwaThema has in the past 20 years grown to be one of the best township in Ekurhuleni socially, politically, economically and otherwise.”

The foundation is hosting the event in partnership with the Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC) which is a facilitating structure on community development formed by different organisations.

Xaba says that the awards were created to recognise and give gratitude to people who have worked hard to build the community.

“Their efforts produced prominent leaders who inspired others to rise and be counted in moving KwaThema forward.”

He believes that the event will be an opportunity for the community to take stock how far it has come to change people’s lives.

“As society we need to start acknowledging these silent voices who speak less and act more in making sure that no child goes to bed hungry, or without basic needs,” he adds.

Xaba invites the community to be part of this historical event and support those identified as change agents by their wards.

The black tie event will be held at KwaThema Hall on September 29, at 6pm.

Motivational speakers, poetry and music are lined up for the day.
