Teenager robbed in taxi as Quantum criminals strike again

“It is alleged that while the vehicle was in motion, two of the men allegedly grabbed her by force and took her hand bag, cell phone and tekkies."

KwaThema – Residents of KwaThema have been called to be vigilant when entering mini taxis.

This warning comes after a 17-year-old on her way home, was stopped by a Quantum along Thema Road in the Tornado Section on Sunday.

KwaThema police spokesman, Captain Thabo Sibuyi, says when the complainant entered the vehicle, she noticed four unknown men.

“While the vehicle was in motion, two of the men allegedly grabbed her by force and took her handbag, cell phone and takkies.

“The driver then stopped the vehicle and the woman was instructed not to look back and not to scream.

“Thereafter the motorist proceeded to drive away in the direction of Springs,” he says.

Sibuyi says a case of common robbery is being investigated by KwaThema police.

“We urge passengers to ensure that they are always vigilant when getting into any vehicle.

“They should also take note of the registration number of the vehicle and the people inside.

“And if at any point, you suspect you may be in trouble, try to get out of the vehicle when it is safe to do so,” he says.
