Long-wanted suspect commits suicide when surrounded by police in Tsakane

“We launched a man hunt until the police received a lead from the community that one suspect’s name is Rasta/Bafo."

Tsakane – A criminal, who has long been sought by the police, has taken his own life.

It is alleged the suspect, who has been terrorising the community for years, pulled the trigger on himself after he realised the police were surrounding his home and he had nowhere to run.

Tsakane police spokesperson, Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu, says the man has committed a series of house robberies, murder and other crimes.

“In the early hours of Monday morning after getting a lead, the police went to Soweto, White City, in search of the suspect and the gang.

“They were suspected to be responsible for some crimes committed in Tsakane and Duduza.

“When the suspect learned that the police were outside his house he shot himself in the head.

“He was certified dead by the paramedics,” she says.

Mngomezulu says they have been searching for the suspect and his group for months but with no success.

“We launched a manhunt until the police received a lead from the community that one of the suspect’s name is Rasta/Bafo.

Cluster Commander, Maj Gen Girly Mbele, says she appreciates the help and information brought by the members of the community.

“We encourage the residents to work together with the police in removing the criminals from the streets.

“Together we will be able to reduce the crime statistics and keep our streets safe,” she says.
