Langaville Primary host Taiwanesse visitors

Hundreds of learners, and their parents, braved the cold to collect their gifts from Tzu Chi Foundation SA, last Saturday.

Langaville – hundreds of learners, and their parents, braved the cold to collect their gifts from Tzu Chi Foundation SA, last Saturday.

“We want you to accept our gift with the hope that you will extend the same kindness to others in need,” says Anita Lee, facilitator for the day.

The Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation has been making annual donations to Langaville Primary School since 2004.

Lee encourages this year’s beneficiaries to look for opportunities to show compassion to people who have less than they do.

Every learner from the school received a voucher that allows their parents to collect two 10kg bags of rice, shoes and bath soap from the foundation.

Cecilia Cheng, deputy director of Tzu Chi, says their relationship started when the principal, Khosi Mahlangu, became a volunteer.

“I am really proud of how far we have come with the school and principal Khosi.

We will soon be starting a soup kitchen right here to help the elderly, especially in this cold,” adds Cheng.

Mahlangu says the learners look forward to the foundation’s visit every year.

“They provide much needed relief for most of the families here.”

Emmanuel Mogale, a volunteer from the foundation gave the audience tips on how to cook the rice.

“Please don’t try to cook it the way you are used to cooking.

“You need to wash it at least 3 times before you put it on the stove.

“If you dot wash it, izoba yipapa! (it will become pap)”.
