Tlakula learners reawarded for hard work

“We acknowledge some improvement in other subjects but we would like to encourage our learners to pull up their socks in these subjects".

KwaThema – Grade 12 learners at Tlakula High School were rewarded for their performance in the first and second term by the Chief whip of the ANC, Jongizizwe Dlabathi.

Early this year the office of the chief whip adopted 90 learners across Ekurhuleni and enrolled them in Ntsane Masiloane School’s Enrichment Programme which sought to assist them with Mathematics, Science and Accounting.

Learners were reminded about the importance of education and parents were urged to be actively involved in their children’s education.

Dlabathi says he is still concerned about learners’ performance in Mathematics, Science and Accounting.

“We acknowledge some improvement in other subjects but we would like to encourage our learners to pull up their socks in these subjects.

“Those three subjects open bigger doors for our kids,” he says.

Dlabathi says he is happy about the performance of the school with regards to sport.

“Tlakula High is one of the schools that produced learners who are talented in sport.

“We will also introduce some of the programmes that we have planned.

“We need to support the school and its programmes if we want to see the learners improving their grades.

“We will also introduce programmes that will deal with the scourge of nyaope (substance abuse) and gangsterism in this school,” he says.

Dlabathi says government has budgeted R100 million for bursaries that will be given to deserving students.

“We urge parents and learners to make use of the opportunity presented to them.

“Soon, application forms will be made available. This year alone, about 700 learners have benefitted and are studying at institutions of higher learning.

The District Director Somikazi Chabalala urged learners to seize this opportunity and advised them to work even harder in their final exams.

“This opportunity only comes once and if you don’t selfishly take and run with it, you will regret it one day,” she says.
