New head of detectives ready to roll sleeves

“My door is always open if there is anything they don’t understand or if they have any complaints they have about their case."

KwaThema – KwaThema Police Station is pleased to introduce to the community Lt Col Nhlanhla Welcome Kunene who is the newest detective branch commander.

Kunene started at his new post at the station on June 1, after having served the community of Tsakane for more than 15 years.

He took over from Lt Col Petrus Johannes Joachim Burger, who has been transferred to Tsakane to serve as their detective branch commander.

“I am very happy to be working with the community of KwaThema and want to encourage our people not to be afraid to come to me.

“My door is always open if there is anything they don’t understand or if they have any complaints about the handling of their case.

“I am willing to assist them wherever I can,” says Kunene.

He adds it is important for the community to know he needs them in order to reduce crime in their community as he cannot do this alone.

Kunene further appeals to the victims of crime to stop withdrawing cases, especially where there has been an arrest.

Criminals living in KwaThema have been warned their time is up and they should move on as Kunene plans to bring some changes to the station.

Speaking on behalf of KwaThema station commander Col Elsie Malapane says she is happy to formally welcome Lt Col Kunene to the station.

“KwaThema SAPS has a new detective branch commander who has declared war against all criminals.

“He has also stated he will make sure all the perpetrators of crime are arrested and bought to book, which is something we welcome,” she says.
