Dignity packs to be donated for five years

“We believe these dignity packs will inspire confidence in the lives of young women."

KwaThema – Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) in Ekurhuleni donated dignity packs to girl learners at Tsakane Secondary School recently.

This was at the close of the charitable month in which the legacy of former state president Nelson Mandela is celebrated.

The municipality, together with five other companies, worked hand in glove to see to it that 200 girl learners will be supplied with the dignity packs they need for the next five years.

Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) Clr Ndosi Shongwe says society has a responsibility to take care of those who are disadvantaged, especially young women.

“We believe these dignity packs will inspire confidence in the lives of young women.

“They will be able to concentrate on their studies without having to worry about messing their school uniform.

“We have learned that some learners chose to be absent from school during that time of the month because they can’t afford to buy dignity sanitary pads.

“We are hoping that this gesture will help restore their dignity,” she says.

Mfundo Malunwya, a Grade Nine learner from Tsakane Secondary School, is among the recipients of the dignity packs.

“We are very excited about this gesture.

“It means a lot for our dignity and it will go a long way in ensuring that our studies are not interrupted,” she said.
