Attackers stab friends walking home

Mugging leaves victim with eye injuries.

KwaThema – A woman (35) is recovering at her home after she sustained a stab wound to her face during a robbery last month.

It is alleged that the complainant was walking with her friend along Mahlasela Street at Mthembu Village, when she was attacked.

KwaThema police spokesperson Captain Thabo Sibuyi, says the complainant and her friend were approached by two unknown men at about 7.30pm.

“One of the men allegedly stabbed the complainant with a sharp object on her face, while the other grabbed her friend.

“The men then demanded money and cell phones from the women.

“Fearing for her life, the complainant threw a R200 note on the ground which the men took before fleeing the scene.

“As the men left, the woman who sustained an injury to her eye was able to scream for help.

“The community responded quickly and were able to chase and managed to catch one suspect,” he says.

The one suspect was arrested and charged for robbery with a weapon or instrument other than a firearm.

“The injured woman was also taken to the hospital for medical treatment,” he says.

Sibuyi says they thank the community for helping the women who were in trouble, and for not taking the law into their own hands when they caught the one suspect.

“The accused made a brief appearance at the Springs Magistrate’s Court last Tuesday where the case was remanded for further investigation.”

His accomplice is, however, still at large.
