Taxi ride turns into mugging

Passenger was mugged after boarding a local mini taxi.

KwaThema – Mini-taxi ride turned into a robbery after a 45-year-old man boarded a taxi at the corner of Masibeni and Mojela streets.

The complainant was headed to Vlakfontein Road in Extension Two.

KwaThema police spokesman Captain Thabo Sibuyi says when the victim got inside the vehicle, he noticed a female passenger in the front seat and two males at the back.

“It is alleged one of the men told the unsuspecting complainant that he was going to get off first and requested the man to sit in the middle.

“As they all got in, the driver sped off and turned left at Vlakfontein Road instead of right, where the complainant was going.

“The driver stopped the vehicle at an open space and the passenger seated on the right of the complainant, threatened to shoot him.

“The man was searched and his R40 was taken from his pocket along with a notepad.

“The thieves proceeded to instruct him to go out of the taxi and to run without looking back,” he says.

Sibuyi says a case of common robbery is being investigated.

“We urge residents to be vigilant when entering any vehicle and to remember as many details about it as possible, especially the colour, model and registration number.

“They should also ensure that they pay attention to the people inside the vehicle and how they look.

“Furthermore, it is important to have a number on speed dial you can call, should you find yourself in trouble,” he says.
