KwaThema – Ratanang crew chose to spend Mandela day pampering pensioners at KwaThema Skills Centre on Tuesday morning.

Nonhlanhla Sibonyoni, founder of Ratanang Elderly Organization says that her dream since she started the organisation in 2014 has been to make the elderly feel special.

“Today we have catered for around 30 of them.

I wanted to show them how special they are and that they are our role models.

Our ultimate goal is to get a place to keep them during the day.”

She says that most of the pensioners use their grants to support their families, and they end up not having enough money to look after themselves.

Gogo Lizzy Mosima (74) says she has been looking forward to the neck massage all week.

“I want to stay healthy and live long. I want to raise my grandchildren’s children, I just had this persistent neck pain.”

Cynthia Mahlangu who works for skills centre administration decided to help Nonhlanhla and the crew.

“It is truly commendable what they are doing for abogogo so I just decided to help out.”

Tina Nsibande (61) admits that the massage was so good that she was falling asleep.

College student Sphiwe Shandu says: “I’m here on a project for the school to show that I am doing something for the community.”

Zandile Shabalala, who has been assisting Nonhlanhla since the establishment of the organisation explains that the course helps her too.

“Those of us who don’t have parents receive their love as we care for them.

It all comes from the bottom of our hearts and we hope that anyone who has the capacity to help us will do so.”
