Help Wag Complex Club keep children occupied during holidays

An initiative to keep children from illegally swimming in damn and taking drugs needs your donations to keep afloat

Wag Complex Club needs your help to keep young children from the streets.

The organisation offers after-school and holiday sporting activities to children aged between 5-16 years in the area.

Sthembiso Mdebele says they decided to start the initiative after two children drowned in the dam after attempting to learn to swim.

“We were also concerned about the high number of young children who were experimenting with drugs.

“A lot of children in the area saw this as part of entertainment because there were no other alternatives.

“We had to come up with ways to keep their attention from this.

“We realised that the children don’t have anything to do to keep them busy during this period.

“They also didn’t have people who looked after them because most parents are at work during the day.

“Through the initiative, the children play together and parents know where they are at all times,” he says.

Sthembiso says they offer sporting games, mentorship and they receive life skills training programmes on how to carry themselves and the importance of respect,” he adds.

Sthembiso says they are currently running the centre from their own pockets but that is not enough to sustain it.

“We are calling to local business people to help us keep the centre afloat by donating soccer kit and educational materials.

” Community members who are interested in helping us by making donation can contact us on 060 9423 398,” he says.
