SAPS take the fight against drugs to the streets

Members of the SAPS in collaboration with EMPD took the fight against substance abuse to the streets.

Tsakane – Tsakane SAPS in collaboration with EMPD held a substance abuse awareness campaign in the Lethuli House area on Saturday.

The event was held to fight the growing problem of drug abuse in the area.

Tsakane police spokesperson Seargent Lerato Mngomezulu says the campaign was held in three phases.

Pamphlets were issued and stop-and-searches were performed around Extensions Three, Four, Five, Seven and Eight in Langaville, Tsakane.

“During the second phase the team moved to Ext 12 Tsakane, to talk to boys who need help quiting nyaope.

“The boys always meet at Ext 12 with the support group for the nyaope users in the area.

“The recovering addicts were encouraged to persevere and fight the monster of addiction.

“We know it is not going to be an easy journey but it can be done if they put their minds to it.

“They have our support throughout the journey during the rehab and after care programmes,” she says.

Their last stop was the Union in Christ Church at Emaswazini, Tsakane, where children were cautioned against taking drugs.

Mngomezulu is calling on church leaders, community members and other stakeholders to join forces to fight drug addiction.
