Man shot in his groin following shooting

Man has been arrested after a shooting in KwaThema.

KwaThema – A man has been arrested following a shooting along Mokgatla and Nkosi streets in White City, on Saturday afternoon.

Police were called to the scene after receiving a call from concerned community members.

KwaThema police spokesperson Captain Thabo Sibuyi says the police found the victim who had been shot in his groin.

“The man was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

“The community members were able to apprehend the suspect and disarm him.

“The Silver Star firearm was taken in with an empty magazine and the suspect was arrested.

“The suspect was charged with attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and appeared in court on Monday, but the matter was postponed,” he says.

Sibuyi says the motive for the shooting is not yet known.

“We thank the community of KwaThema who were able to assist in the situation and who did not take the law into their own hands.

“If we work with the community, we can do more,” he says.
