Councillor pleads with community to stop vandalising sports facilities

Stop vandalising sport facilities.

KwaThema – Sakhi Gakula, Sport Coordinator for Ward 79 Sakhi is pleading with the community to stop vandalising sports facilities.

“We are taking one step forward and 2 steps back.

“Every time someone breaks something we must source money from other projects to fix whatever is broken.”

Ntokozweni Ground was built as part of the Legacy 2010 project.

“These facilities are used by our own children so when we destroy them we hinder the children’s progress.”

Gakula also runs a fitness academy that focuses on senior citizens.

“I am begging because I am one of the people who have worked tirelessly to get such facilities in the community.”

He says that funds are available for new projects and it will soon be unveiled to the public.

Gakula has been an advocate for healthy living and fitness KwaTsaDuza for many years.

He says that people are sick and they are not helping their bodies to recover and exercise is one of the most effective ways to reverse physical damage caused by illness.

“All we need is patience, your cooperation. And participation. Everything is coming together well.”

He says that although they do not have state of the art facilities what they do have should be cherished.

“This is also to challenge the young ones. If you see your parents staying fit you will be encouraged to do the same,” he explains.

Gakula says that they are also very lucky to have a ward councillor who prioritises health and fitness initiatives in the community.
