Ximba’s new book unleashes excellence

KwaThema – Innocent Ximba (21) is committed to unleashing excellence from the youth by giving them practical steps in his new book.

“I had to find a way to dispel any myths that excellence is unattainable, especially in the black community.”

Innocent says that only a few years after he began his career as a motivational speaker, he grew tired of just telling people ‘you can do it’ but he wanted to tell them how they can do it.

“I had a problem in secondary school.

I was excellent in leadership and other extramural activities but I could not translate that into my academic results,” he explains.

Innocent says that he has spent the past six years researching excellence and what it takes to make it a lifestyle.

“I found that distinctions are mainly influenced by what happens outside the classroom.”

He believes that it is what people do at home, with their ‘free time’, and how ‘obsessed’ their parents are with excellence that produces the best results.

“In the end, I came up with a 24-day challenge in which I promise that if you follow through to the very end your results will improve dramatically.”

The young author believes that his book is quite rebellious.

“I don’t just make promises, I’m blunt and if you are not willing to stick with it then don’t even bother,” he says.

He adds that the core message is that “you need to study” and not just memorise.

“People need to get rid of the habit of ‘cramming’ enough to finish the paper.

Studying entails understanding, questioning and really taking it all in.”
