KwaThema – A couple (aged 18 and 20) was attacked on Wednesday evening by two unknown men while walking along an open veld between Rest in Peace and Vergenoeg.
The two were walking home after going to gym in Bulithando Park.
KwaThema police spokesman, Captain Thabo Sibuyi, says after crossing the bridge towards Vergenoeg, they were followed by the two men, who had been standing next to the bridge.
“The one guy allegedly swore at the boyfriend, took out a gun and shot at him from the back, wounding him on his right side.
“Then he told the woman to go home.
“They then took off without taking anything.
“The couple managed to walk until they reached the corner of Tyolweni and Ncwadi streets, where the young man finally lay down,” he says.
Sibuyi says community members gathered to help the couple and called an ambulance and the police.
“The motive for the crime is not yet known. However, police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
“No arrests have been made – we are calling on anyone with information to contact KwaThema police on 011 812 4600,” he says.
