Shot and hijacked in stationary car

A man was shot when the engaged couple was hijacked while sitting in a car on Tuesday evening.

KwaThema – A man (42) was shot and hijacked along Kelly Street while with his fiancée on Tuesday.

According to the police, the complainant (28) alleges she was sitting at about 8pm with her fiancé in his silver-grey Jetta 5 000 UBA GP.

KwaThema spokesman Captain Thabo Sibuyi says it is alleged she saw two suspicious-looking males walking behind the vehicle while the couple was sitting in the car.

“The men stopped a few metres away from the vehicle and as she noticed this, she alerted her fiancé about it.

“A few minutes later the two males allegedly walked straight to the vehicle and the one with a firearm went straight to the driver and fired one shot at him.

“The other went toward the woman and when she saw a knife in his hand, she ran away to a house and doesn’t know what happened after that.

“She then heard a motor vehicle driving away and went outside and found her fiancé bleeding on his left upper arm,” says Sibuyi.

“No arrests have been made and the vehicle has not yet been recovered.

“Police continue to urge residents to avoid parking their vehicles outside their yards, or on the streets at night, or in the early hours of the morning, and sitting inside them – because this makes them easy targets for criminals.

“Anyone with information which can help the police solve this case can contact KwaThema detectives on 011 812 4600,” he says.
