Residents don’t want an early learning centre but a road

Angry residents say they don't want an early learning centre but a tarred road.

Tsakane – Angry community members from Extension Eight handed over a memorandum to Community Care Centre (CCC) officials about the un-tarred Nwendzamhala Road.

They allege they moved into Area 27 years ago but the main road is still not tarred.

They were shocked that instead of getting a tarred road the councillor gave them an early learning centre.

Community member Palesa Tema says they never asked for an early learning centre.

“For years we have been pleading with our councillors to tar the gravel road but they only make promises and never deliver.

“We feel that our needs as citizens of this country are not being taken seriously.

“This is a main road for Extensions Eight, Nine and 12 but it has been neglected for years.

“We don’t have storm-water drains to channel rainwater.

“As a result our homes become flood and we end up trapped,” she says.

Another resident, Tebogo Monyabane, says they have been submitting different memorandums of their concerns through the years but nothing has been done.

“We are now being told that we need to to be patient, but for how long?

“We are saying enough is enough – we want the road to be tarred,” he says.

Another community member, Samson Ratselela (70), says they have collected signatures from the residents in the area.

In response, Nape Seopela, from the Customer Care Centre management, says the department implements projects requested through the integrated development plan (IDP) process.

“Currently ward 112 has submitted project request for the roads East Mthunzi Avenue, Njelele, Mothibe, Malaza, Kotavushika and Vulindlela.

“In the South-West we are going to prioritise Thubelisha, and in Ext 8 Rockville Thakado and Modjadji streets.

“The department is implementing the listed projects over multi financial years because of limited resources,” he says.

In her comment, Ward 112 Councillor Anna Mnguni, says the people in the area fail to attend community meetings.

“We have monthly community meeting where the residents are updated about new developments in their area.

“We are trying to prioritise and share development resources with other areas.

“We are currently building an early learning center in the area.

“We will prioritise the road in the area when there is a budget for it.

“For now there isn’t and we are prioritising other areas too,” she says.
