Community supports families of slain couple

Aggrieved members of the community filled the Springs Magistrate's Court to support the families of slain Refiloe Moshime and Thuto Theko, on Monday morning.

Springs – Aggrieved members of the community filled the Springs Magistrate’s Court to support the families of slain Refiloe Moshime and Thuto Theko, on Monday morning.

The KwaThema businessman who is out on bail for the two youngsters’ murders appeared at the same court on June 6 where the case was remanded.

It is alleged on April 14 the man shot and killed Mosime and Theko.

KwaThema police spokesman, Warrant Officer Peter Tebeila, says one of the neighbours saw blood flowing out of Moshime’s bedroom.

“When she went to investigate she found her lying in a pool of her own blood, dead.

“She found another body of another boyfriend lying outside on the pavement with a bullet wound in his left eye,” he says.

During court proceedings the state requested the case be postponed to July 26, stating the docket never left the premises after the first hearing.

The docket is said to have remained with the courts, hindering any further investigation in the last 20 days.

It is alleged the head investigator, who was not present, assumed the docket would be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), therefore he did not collect it from the court.

In response, the defence attorney says he has no sympathy towards the state.

He believes the state has had enough time and resources to conclude the case.

He added the head investigator has enough experience to know the docket would not be sent to the DPP until the investigation is complete.

The defense requested the magistrate make this a final postponement.

The magistrate remanded the case for July 19, reiterating that the state has had enough time to resolve the investigation.
